First ever animal blessing held in our church

Today, Fr. David was pleased to see that a fair number of people had turned up with their animals.
This included a cat, several dogs and a pair of birds.
Fr. David first explained what would happen in this service, gave some background about St. Francis of Assisi and he told us how the philosophy of Descartes (living being are like machines) had been instrumental in our modern disregard for the welfare of animals.
In a short service we thanked God for the animals and prayed that they would be treated with more respect for God’s creation.
Each animal received a blessing and Fr. Robert Frede ended with a general blessing for all of us.
